My favorite verses

I have a lot of favorite verses. Every once in a while I'll go through a book of my Bible and put my favorites on index cards. I put those index cards on my wall, or write the verse in my special verse box. Without further ado, here are my favorites. (In italics I wrote the verse and in normal what it means to me.) I have a different Bible than most of you so the translation might be different.

Ephesians 5:20 - Always give thanks to God, the father, for everything.  This means to me that no matter how you are feeling give thanks to the Lord. Here's a great way to start an early morning, thank God for that day. "Today is the day the Lord has made"

Proverbs 17:17 - A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. To me this means that a friend is someone who cares about you no matter what. The next part is very true. I have a brother and I know that they are born for adversity.

Matthew 6:21 - Where your treasure is, your heart will be also. I think this means that if your greatest treasure is God then your heart is in heaven. If your greatest treasure is money then your heart is not in God but rather in the money.

John 14:15 - If you love me you will obey what I command.  To me this  means if you truly love the Lord you will do whatever he tells you to.

Matthew 5:44 - I tell you: Love and pray for your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. To tell you what this means to me let me put this in a realistic example: So say this girl is really mean to you. She is a tattle-tale, she isn't afraid to point out all of your flaws, hates your fashion sense and isn't afraid to tell you, etc, etc... You should pray for her. Pray that the lord will bring her peace and help her find her way to him. Make the most of an otherwise painful situation.

1 Corinthians 10:31 - Whatever you do, do your work, as if working for the Lord rather than for men. This to me means don't take the trash down to get your allowance and please your Mom. Take the trash down to please the Lord and you really can't get much better than that.

Hebrews 12:12 - Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. Who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning it's shame and sat down and the right-hand of the throne of God. This basically speaks for itself. Fix your eyes on Jesus.

I have a lot more but my very favorite is this one :

God is Love - 1 John 4:8
